The new italian legislation on SEU (Efficient consumption systems)

(by Giacomo Mantero)

When talking about SEU (Efficient Consumption Systems) it often seems like a futuristic model that will have great spread. This statement is certainly acceptable but limiting because SEU not only will develop in the near future but they also did in the past!impianto fotovoltaico Loccioni

Let me explain better. By definition, SEU are: “systems in which a electricity production source [...], powered by renewable sources or by high efficient cogeneration [...], is directly connected, by means of a private link [...], to the system for the consumption of a single end user, also corresponding to the producer [...]”. Thus, everyone who produced energy from a photovoltaic system in the last 10 years can be considered a SEU!

Smart Carbon, the sustainable idea of Loccioni Environment.

smart carbon
(di Stefano Collura, R&D Manager, Loccioni Environment)

Let’s try to image a world without coal fired power plants, incinerators, steelworks, cement plants, refineries, chemical plants and all those plants commonly agreed as polluting ones.

Of course we would live in cleaner and nicer world, but most probably we would also be compelled to give away most of the comforts we get used to and upon which is based our present idea of wellbeing: we would not be able to produce enough energy to meet our needs, we would live in wood made houses or caves, we would need fire to heat e we would move on foot or by horse; we would not even go by bicycle because we would need to melt metals and synthesize tires from hydrocarbons…

Pipeline’s leakage detection

pipelines

(by Enrico Rocchetti)

Nowadays Oil&Gas industry is one of the biggest market in terms of economical, social and environmental aspects.
Oil exploration and production areas are often contaminated by big petrol treatment plants and local people is always against these kind of activities, due to environmental pollution problems.
For example, Nigeria is crossed by thousand kilometers of pipelines for the oil transportation to be treated or distribuited in other places. Every day there are local village’s people that usually try to make holes in those pipelines in order to take out the oil and sell it illegaly.
So the monitoring and leakage detection of long pipelines is a crucial aspect to guarantee reliability and robustness of a big Oil transport network.
Loccioni has developed in partnership with an important Oil&Gas company a new solution that can be installed in that areas. Placing those systems in strategic places (usually at the beginning and at the end of the pipelines), it’s possible to process acquired data, for the detection of possible leakages along the pipelines.
Again, Loccioni’s core competence of “meausurement” has solved a big environmental problem in the Oil&Gas market.

From Prosumers to Smart Communities

EfficienzaThe current Italian and International energy market is undergoing a relevant change resulting from an intensive use of modern techniques for the production of energy from renewable sources. The mechanism of conversion from conventional to renewable energy sources has been generated due to strict economic policies, whose goal is to get benefits in environmental and economic terms. The geographic areas with low presence of raw materials have been motivated also by the possibility of achieving a higher degree of independence from the macro-zones rich in fossil fuels.

Loccioni@Smart Energy Expo

Smart energy expo

On Friday, 10th of October Loccioni Group will present its Microgrid in one of the conferences organized by Smart Energy Expo in Verona, the international exhibition that promotes new solutions, products and technologies for energy efficiency.

Smart Energy Expo deals with energy efficiency from two points of view:

  • reduce wasted energy in processes and final goods
  • produce more distributed energy, focusing on resources that are economically efficient and environmentally friendly.
We will wait for you at our presentation!

The European Union finances research

finanziamenti europei

Secure, clean and efficient energy is one of the seven priority challenges identified by the EU in Horizon 2020 the biggest research and innovation program ever. For this reason € 5.9 billion have been allocated over 7 years (2014-2020) to support different energy related topics.

The focus on smart cities technologies (one of the three focus topic together with Energy efficiency and Low Carbon technologies) is expected to result in commercial-scale solutions with a high market potential: urban areas will benefit from new, efficient, and user-friendly technologies and services, in particular in the areas of energy (Smart grids), transport and ICT. The keyword is integration: integration among different technologies, among different partners, between public and private bodies. EU funds will be dedicated to develop large demonstrators which are expected to prove the feasibility of innovative approaches and technologies helping to mobilize private investments.

The Club of Rome half century after “The limits to growth” and its consequences on today’s world.

(by Ugo Bardi)

Ugo Bardi

We all remember the well known study “The limits to growth” published in 1972 by The Club of Rome. Its memory is often misrepresented from the passing of time and from the many legends that have been built upon its results. Thus, we remember – or we believe we remember – that “The limits to growth” made “wrong forecasts” by saying that we should  have finished this or that resource (oil, gas, copper or whatever) already a long time ago. This is not what happened, of course. But the story was different.
